Pescia is a medieval village, famous all over the world for its flower growing and sale and Collodi.
It is a commune of Pistoia province, situated between Lucca and Florence.
The village is divided in two parts, joined with a bridge that cross the Pescia river: the religious part, with the Cathedral, is on the left bank of the river, while in the other bank there is the administrative center.

Collodi is famous all over the world beacause Carlo Lorenzini, the author of Pinocchio’s adventures, used the name of this town, where his mother was born, as pen-name.
In Collodi you'll find the Pinocchio Park of Collodi, an old fashioned kind of park from the days when you didn't need bloodcurdling death-defying rides to charm the kids.
The park tells Collodi's version of the story of Pinocchio through sculpture, mosaics and puppet shows. It features a museum with Pinocchio related items.
The village of Collodi is very particular: it is characterised by cascading houses, that from the top of a hill arrive until Villa Grazioli.
Visiting Collodi is like come back in the past: houses have maintained the same features fo 100 years, until now.
Places and traditions
Pescia is divided into five quarters, generally known as the "quinti". These quarters contest the "Palio dei Rioni", a test of archery skills, on the first Sunday of September.
Today Pescia is famous for its extensive cultivation of flowers, hosting one of nine national flower markets and a Biennial Flower Show. Within the Pescia comune there are also numerous plant nurseries, offering plants of all kinds, but especially olive trees.
If you love trekking the Valleriana route is the ideal tour to walk and to discover the wonderful nature aroun Pescia. It is 100 kilometres long and it previews different kind of difficulty levels. It last 4 days and prevews many stops.

One of the most famous product in Pescia is the asparagus, famous for its big dimensions. For this reason it is called “the big of Pescia”. Despite the others, Pescia’s asparagus is ideal for using 'crude', with lemon and olive oil.
Sorana beans and salami and cold pork meats are other typical local products.

By car: highway A11 Firenze-mare. Exit Chiesina Uzzanese. Follow the signs for Pescia
By plane: the nearest airport are Galileo Galilei di Pisa and the airport of Florence. Pescia is easily reacheble by bus, by train and by car.
By train: Pescia train station is served by the Firenze-Lucca-Viareggio railway line.
